What do you see in this picture?
Is it real or an illusion?
Here’s a link to a poem I wrote to illustrate that perception isn’t always reality
“So, the antidote to my poisonous thoughts
was to remember our beauty not warts,
as who knows what tomorrow may bring?” Click the link above for full poem…
We receive 2 billion pieces of information and our mind filters out lots of those pieces based on what we’ve learned and experienced in other areas of our life. The same also applies to what we hear – our mind filters out many of the words we hear and focuses on a few words.
Our mind fills in gaps based on life experiences. We distort reality which is why a policeman investigating a crime will speak to numerous witnesses and receive several version of the ‘reality’ that each witness saw.
We are accountable for our thoughts and sometimes we have to challenge our beliefs and thoughts.
Here’s a really inspirational TED Talk which really puts life and the realities we create into clear perspective. Definitely food for thought!
Did you see a parrot … Look again and see if you can see the lady!
What did you see – I’d love to know – please leave me a comment.
Wendy, I’m suspect you’ve journeyed a long way since writing that poem back in March 2015. Sure you’ve had plenty of grow and glow moments, but oh wow!!! Stick-to-it-ness has it going on.
By the way…the poem is a dandy. I love ’em when they rhyme AND chime in some motivation too. Good one ****

Sorry for delayed respond Jen.. You’re absolutely right – I have travelled a long way since I wrote that poem. It’s been a fabulous journey and one I’m definitely continuing. Thanks Jen – yep a bit of rhyme and chime is absolutely fine! xx
An extraordinary man with a message that we should all embrace and take to our core and work with, build on and live by every day. Surely if he could do it, stripped of his sight then we all can. If we will. I saw the parrot. Just the parrot. But I refused to accept that was it. Then I saw her. Saw how she was made and realized that with effort and willpower we can be whatever we want to be. Fly little birdies, fly high because you can. And so can I. Xx

Absolutely! How incredibly inspiring and what a message for us all to pay heed to… and yes, I love the parrot picture as it really does highlight how much our minds filter out and change what we perceive to be reality when in reality it’s something completely different. We Mary’s can most definitely fly high with the Eagles. I’ll join you up there soaring high and free xxx
What an inspiring man and with such profound and powerful messages. Definitely a lot of food for thought here. For the record, I can see the lady but only because I’ve seen this picture before. I remember it took me a long time to see her Here’s to constantly challenging our beliefs. xx

An amazing message for us – what a fabulous philosophy on living life with true vision for us all to listen to Miri. I posted the parrot on a post a couple of years ago but it never ceases to amaze me and reminds me to challenge myself to see things from a different perspective. Much love and a big hug xxx
