Travel Review: Wonderful Spa Break – Part 1

Travel Review: Wonderful Spa Break – Part 1

We’ve just returned from a wonderful Spa Hotel Break at The Greenway Hotel near Cheltenham, here in the UK. It was a spur of the moment trip and we only booked it the day before we travelled as hubby had a week off and we fancied some much needed relaxation time.

Well we certainly made the right choice, as the hotel we picked turned out to be absolutely perfect (no affiliation)… We hit upon the hotel on a Booking.com last minute spa break deal and it turned out to be the most relaxing few days and just what the Doctor ordered.

On arrival at the hotel, we were very pleasantly informed by the reception staff that our room wasn’t quite ready and after a very genuine apology, we were shown into the ‘lounge’ area and treated to some complimentary champagne!

What great Customer Service and a fabulous start to our trip, as we had barely touched the Champagne when the room was ready…

Obviously we had to empty the glasses before we continued to the room – it would have been rude not to!!

The reception staff were really helpful and gave us a personal tour through the hotel and up to our room which was in the old Coach House above the wonderful spa. The room was very spacious and far better than we’d expected having booked last minute and we’d only booked a ‘standard double’ room, so had thought the room may be fairly small… Have you ever heard the saying… “You know what thought did”?

We were therefore delighted at the overall size and ‘ambience’ of the room. The decor was very different to the normal ‘bland’ hotel rooms, and although the wallpaper was quite busy, it seemed very fitting with the ‘coach house stable theme of the room and as Cheltenham is also famous for it’s horse racing, it was perfectly themed for the area too…

We had lovely views from the balcony windows out over the rolling Cotswold Hills and keeping to the ‘horse’ theme, we had the ‘real things’ in the adjacent field to admire too!

The Bathroom was larger than the normal hotel bathroom with a bath and separate walk in shower. The bathroom felt luxurious and was perfectly suited to the complimentary toiletries from the Espa range and which smelled divine!

We loved the presentation of the teapot and cups within the ‘service de chambre’box… The selection of homemade shortbread and ginger biscuits was a lovely touch and there was also complimentary water and fruit for us to enjoy too. My only ‘niggle’ was that they only left 2 mini milks and as I like VERY milky tea, this wasn’t sufficient. However, it wasn’t a problem, as on request, they provided us with a jug of fresh milk, which was replenished for the following day too… Again- Excellent Service… we were made to feel that nothing was too much trouble.

Well after the 2.5 hour drive, we were feeling peckish… the ‘healthy eating’ Diabetes diet went completely out of the window as we indulged in a delightfu afternoon tea.. The homebaked cakes were absolutely divine!!! Now I did take some photographs of the afternoon tea but for some reason, I can’t seem to get them to download onto my new laptop… all the other pics have transferred but not these…. mystery to be solved and if I work it out I’ll add them in! In the meantime….. take my word for it – this afternoon tea was definitely not to be missed! (photo of lounge below taken from hotel website instead, to giveyou a feel for the ‘Afternoon Tea Ambience’)

Before I could face getting my swimming gear on for a trip into the Hotel Spa, it was necessary to have a walk around the hotel grounds to ‘burn off’ the excess sugar- Yikes – I hope my Doctor doesn’t ever read this or I’ll be ‘in trouble’!!!

Here’s a taster of our walk and now I’m going to keep you in suspense with more to follow in Part 2… which also includes dinner in the ‘fine dining’ restaurant and our trip to the Spa, so watch this space for a ‘bikini shot’….. No on second thoughts maybe not – It would be too terrifying and you’d never re-visit my blog!

However, I will be posting some half naked shots of hubby.. just don’t tell him… haha!

As you can see, I’m wearing my favourite Red Coat… Fashion: How to Get Cosy for Xmas? Buy a Cosy Coat!

As you can see, it was pretty frosty so my cosy coat was definitely a necessity, although we did ‘bare flesh’ for the outdoor hot tub later!

Part 2 coming soon…..
