Thought For The Week: Add Having Fun to the top of your list of tasks and cross something else off the list if necessary!
Just 6 more days left to prepare and I’m sure we’re all rushing around grabbing those last minute presents… and then there’s the food shopping, tidying the house and wrapping the presents! As well as fitting in work and of course some fun festivities with friends and family or work colleagues… Golly I feel shattered at the thought!
It’s easy to become a ‘Martyr to the Cause’ and think that you do things better than your loved ones or you forget in the rush of preparation, to just ask for a little bit of help!
The secret to being able to enjoy this last few days is DELEGATION!!! Ask those loved ones to help and be grateful even if it doesn’t meet your ‘perfect’ standards…
What will your family remember? I remember my mum working really hard for everything to be ‘so perfect’ in the run up to Xmas but what I also remember is her ‘crabby’ response to any request to play.. “I’ve not got time with everything I’ve got to do…”
I’m sure I’ve done the same at times. in years gone by with my family, but this year more than any other, I’ve realised that it’s important to ‘Enjoy The Moment’ and make time to spend with family, as who knows what tomorrow may bring.
So don’t fall into the ‘martyr to perfection’ trap and instead, ask for help if you need it and/or change your standard for what will make a great Xmas Day to include ‘enjoying’ the time with your family rather than waiting for everyone to admire the ‘perfect table setting’!
A good way to help you do this is to ask yourself…. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR FAMILY TO REMEMBER ABOUT XMAS? Do you think they will really care or even appreciate the effort you’ve made to get everything perfect or do you think they would prefer to remember the smile on your face and the sound of your laughter? I know which I’d like my family to remember so I bury my Virgo Perfectionist tendencies and have some ‘Fun’ instead!
I’m making a conscious effort to have FUN this week and to ensure that I’m not so tired to enjoy myself on Xmas Day…. What about you?
So for DAY 19 BIG REVEAL…..
If all else fails though and you end up feeling FRAZZLED by the end of Xmas, at least you may be the lucky winner of some ‘Calming Hair Balm’ to help get the hair you’ve been tearing out, back under some control! haha xx
Great post Wendy. I’m finally getting into the festive mood and having fun, letting others share in the chores. Getting the priorities right is so important. 😊 Thanks for reminding me that I’m on the right track. Hugs xo
