Skinny Bean Burger Recipe Nightmare!

Jpeg

Don,t try this at home ughhh !!

Ok so I’ve posted some of my healthy eating recipe successes including the scrumptious Recipe: Sweet Potato Moussaka – Variation on a Classic Greek Dish and very tasty Recipe: 5 Steps to Tastiest Stuffed Peppers…. oh and not forgetting Recipe: Basil & Lemon Zesty ‘Spring’ Chicken…. Well this recipe for the ‘Skinny Bean Burger’ is the one that got away!!! Seriously DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME….

The recipe was taken from the 8 week blood sugar diet book (which I HIGHLY recommend as a great read for understanding diabetes and diet myths etc. for anyone overweight or diagnosed already with diabetes). All the other recipes tried from the recipe section so far have been great – but not this one!

Now I am not professing to be the best cook as I have been out of practice for a long time (as I’m sure hubby would testify) however I followed this recipe exactly and yet the result was I can only describe as ….  well…. “SAD”.  Sad 😥  was certainly the look on my husband’s face after he valiantly ploughed his way through to the end and for his effort I give him a big 👍 thumbs up! Yes after 40+ years it must be true love or more likely, he knew by the look on my face after I’d slaved over a hot stove all afternoon, not to leave a crumb on his plate hahaha!!!

The Skinny Bean Burger Recipe sounded really tasty with lots of fresh ingredients but nahhhhhhh I can only describe them as insipid mushy pap! I won’t be detailing the recipe ingredients or method for these Skinny Bean Burgers unless somebody particularly has some dark sado masochistic tendencies –  in which case leave me a comment and I will email it to you…….

So for anyone who has bought the 8 week blood sugar diet book – Don’t bother with this one as even Dolly Doggy blogging day turned her nose up and she is a greedy food thief and eats anything – cotton wool and tissues being on her ‘favourite’ list so that probably clarifies how bad this dish was….

So my appeal is this – if there’s anybody out there who can recommend a really TASTY bean burger recipe I’d be willing to do a Cookery Recipe Test and report back my findings…. although I’m not sure any of you will be brave enough to let me loose on reviewing your favourite bean burger recipe after this damning recipe review……

Yuck!

Yuck!

Haha you really made me laugh here! Your hubby is a rare find (or maybe you have trained him better than I have mine šŸ˜…)! In our kitchen there has been many a disastrous meal especially ever since we have had to forgo all gluten, dairy products, and sulfites 😫. I have too tried to make bean burgers and, let’s be honest, they weren’t tasty. Green lentils gave a better result.
Hang in there, you are cooking to improve your health and I can guarantee that it works!
Thank you for following my blog. I am very busy at the moment but I have planned to actually put more recipes in English on http://www.sulfitefreecooking.wordpress.com starting this summer. Don’t worry about commenting in French, English is just fine with me!

Phew to the response in English – thanks so much. I’ve actually enjoyed reading your blog in French as I surprised myself how much of my French lessons at schools (a long time ago!!) came back to me but to try and write it without Google would be hard. I’m so pleased you enjoyed this post and had a chuckle and you’re right my hubby is a pretty rare find and yes there have been MANY years of training as well!! Bean burgers are definitely off the menu though – ughhhh….. I’m looking forward to keeping in touch and will also pop across to the sulfitefree blog site too. Much appreciated and great to meet you! x

    Hahaha!!
I can feel your pain from here Wendy, poor thing. I HAAATE it when my recipes fail, any recipe for that matter actually, not just mine.
So while this was humorous to read it’s also the truth of cooking.

Here’s a recipe for a partly bean burger I made a while ago if you want a go this again.

    https://ivegotcake.com/2015/09/07/spicy-black-bean-quinoa-burgers-with-a-poached-egg/

it’s a combination between black beans and quinoa and would go great with toasted buns. I didn’t serve mine with toasted buns because I don’t eat a lot of bread and was looking for something more protein focused at the time but a good crunch would go nicely with the ‘mashed’ texture of the burger.

Kudos to your hubby for braving through it all and to you for even posting about it!
    xoxo

Haha – what a great comment – I love it – thanks so much!! I’ll be adding that recipe to my list to try out – you’re pretty brave for giving this to me to attempt to make – it may be the next DIY Disaster post… hehehe…… Hubby was pretty brave to be fair – I have to admire his courage – he’s a goodun (most of the time…) as for me – I’m just a nutjob who’s rubbish at cooking nutburgers!! Thanks for cheering up my evening.. xx

I love black beans but have yet to find a burger recipe I like. I guess it’s just not meant to be.

Good to know I’m not the only one who can still have a disaster. You would think at our age we would know better. ha ha. Love it.

Yep – clearly I’ve still got lessons to learn! My mum was an amazing cook and I picked up some tips along the way but have been very ‘rusty’ at putting them into practice…. Haha – never too old to learn a few more lessons in life – thanks goodness! x

What a hero! I have had a couple of disasters myself haha My girls weren’t so forgiving as my man and their faces said say it all when one of my ‘Ah let’s throw this in and see what happens!’ goes awry šŸ™‚

In my house that’s called a ‘Hodgson Concoction’ A little bit of this and a little bit of that .. Maybe it would have turned out better but on this ‘rare’ occasion I actually followed the recipe- haha!!

Oh no! Been there. Bean burgers are tough. I made one bean burger recipe a few years ago that was pretty good but not great, and enough work that I didn’t want to make it again.

Oh good – so glad it’s not just me then! We’ve clearly ‘Been there, done that, worn the t-shirt’ – Never again! haha xx

Yeah, as I remember it, the moisture is a problem. Somehow, falafel works, though. Maybe there’s an answer in soaking but not cooking beans…

Hahaha, how good of hubby to eat it! I don’t make them but I’ve seen Ree Drummond of Pioneer Woman fame, make black bean burgers that looked really good on her show.
