Manchester Lifestyle Blogger Celebrates Successes

Manchester Lifestyle Blogger Celebrates Successes

I’ve been blogging now for a whole 3 months and today I received a WordPress milestone notification which inspired me to have a quick review of my WordPress Statistic and blogging achievements.

There are moments during the last 3 months that I’ve felt disheartened when I’ve seen how quickly other bloggers have grown their followers and the number of likes and comments they receive for each new post or I’ve felt frustrated at my technological incompetence!

It’s so easy to spend our lives comparing ourselves unfavourably to those around us and giving up because we feel we will never be ‘good enough’, when it would serve us so much better to focus on our own personal achievements and take time to celebrate who we are and our own amazing journeys which are all so different.

So for today I’m enjoying celebrating how far I’ve come in the last 3 months and some of the lessons I’ve learned along my blogging journey:

  1. I actually managed to set up my own blog site by myself with no help from my children! I impressed myself with this if nobody else and managed to tick off one of the goals on my 2016 Vision Board.
  2. With over 50 posts to my name, I feel proud to call myself a Manchester Lifestyle Blogger
  3. Through my blog I’ve shared some of my own poems which was something I never thought I’d be brave enough to do… A mothers love lives on was one of the first poems I posted and I was delighted when it quickly received 16 likes.
  4. Sharing the news of my Diabetes diagnosis and the need to develop a healthier lifestyle has really helped keep me ‘on track’ and the encouragement of my fellow bloggers has encouraged me to keep on with my weight loss through healthy eating – I’ve now lost one and a quarter stone (about 17 pounds) and ongoing….
  5. After I posted 60 Second Facelift or Miracle Snore Cure? I received my first ‘blogging gift’ from Rio Beauty, who having read my theory, linked to my blog post on their Facebook page and then very kindly and most unexpectedly sent me some creams and patches to use with the Facelift machine (which is really effective – not just because they’ve now sent me a gift!!) Hopefully, the machine will hold off the need for me to follow the popular ‘fillers and Botox’ route and remain true to my poem: Let the world see the real you! I’m in the middle of testing out my theory about the ‘snore cure’ and will post further about this in due course..
  6. I’ve gained confidence in my blogging and learned some of the tricks to improve Search Engine Optimisation – including adding ‘links’ to previous posts (Just in case you hadn’t noticed – haha!!)

Through this journey over the last 3 months, what I’ve found so exciting is that Brilliance Within has now received 579 visitors – people from across all Continents across the World – How Amazing!! 1697 views and 500 ‘likes’ of my posts. (as of 31st May 2016) and growing daily..

And MOST IMPORTANTLY is that I have gained learning and insight into so many new ideas and lessons for life through reading the posts of my feloow bloggers. I’ve read some amazing stories, been inspired and picked up lots of brilliant tips which I’m putting into action everyday.

So THANKYOU to all those who have visited/followed my site and liked/commented on my posts and led me back to your sites through which I have gained so much insight and which have added value to my journey in life!

Mmmm – now how should I celebrate all this – I’m Soooooooooo tempted by some of the tasty SWEET treats on Vanilla and Sugar’s amazing site:

chocolate cake - Vanilla and Sugar

but NO – I’ve just booked a holiday so really must resist!! …… Not that within the next 2 weeks I’ll be quite ‘in shape’ for the bikini – and NOOOOOO I won’t be posting any pool pictures so you can continue to follow my site in the knowledge that I won’t be terrifying you with the images of the body of an overweight 50+ year old … (not of myself anyway – I may be tempted to post some of hubby but just won’t tell him!!! – you know my post ‘Enduring Love’ – I’m not sure he’ll ‘endure’ me for much longer – hahaha..)

So for me it will have to be the traditional celebration instead..hiccup…hiccup….hiccipup…..

Chapagne Celebration

Long May we Continue to Share and CELEBRATE our Successes in Blogging and in our Lives!!

Congrats. From someone who also started blogging reluctantly and also at first considered quitting when the only people reading it were my kids and I made them. 🙂 I am glad you hung in there and are see the fruits from your efforts. Press on!

Nah, never be disheartened by lack of likes, retweets or anything else. There are two things you need for (mega) successful blogging…time to spend on every social media available day in and day out or patience to let your blog grow at a steady rate over time.

My last blog was very successful. So successful, in fact, that it got to the point where if I had been paid for it (which I wasn’t) I would have hired staff. I needed staff lol. I wrote articles, reviewed, did guest blogs, had guests write for me, interviewed people…the whole works. I had thousands of followers on the Twitter account which went with it and it grew and grew. I had a vast amount of emails to answer and write every day. I had big names in my field seek me out but turned them down as I wanted to concentrate on the people I was most interested in…self publishers. It was madness lol. To accomplish this I networked, tweeted and eventually went on Facebook. I say eventually because I had put it off in fear I would be spending even more time online and less doing what I needed to be doing. In other words it got so big it was too much for one person to handle.

If you want to go the whole hog and publicise your blog you have to put the work in to find people with similar interests and above all write good, edited, informative content. Always.

You can ask to guest blog on other people’s blogs, invite them to do the same on yours and network like crazy on several platforms. Get to know people. Start with the smaller blogs when asking to swap guest blogs and as your blog grows you can move on to asking more popular blogs if you can guest blog swap. This means, in theory, all their thousands of followers will flock to your blog to see what they have written and check your own stuff out. Eventually you may be asked to write an article in your chosen field of interest and start hanging with the top people in your field.

Alternatively you can kick back, write at your own pace, say hello to a few people and comment on their blogs, take your time to grow and make it all a more personal experience rather than a race to a finish line which keeps disappearing over the yonder. This approach also leaves you time to have a life, eat doughnuts without getting sugar on the keyboard and taste the air 😉

Your blog is your own from the heart and, unless you have a product to sell, then the most satisfying and soul enhancing way to do it is to just enjoy it and not worry about stats.

That said, sincere congratulations on your ‘likes’ and for writing the great content which deserved them! I haven’t been here long but I have enjoyed every new post you have written since I landed here. You could certainly go far if you chose to.

I appear to have written another post *oh dear* 😉

You are definitely my ‘official mentor’ now!! How incredibly inspiring and another ‘worthy post’ for us newbies!! I’m saving this one for reference too. I would love to develop a blog in the future to generate an income. This is my ‘practice’ blog which I’m doing for pleasure and to learn the art (which you’re helping me with greatly!) and in future, I would love to develop it as a ‘business’ if that was possible and it sounds from your previous experience that it is so that’s one for my Vision Board definitely! I can imagine how much time it takes though as I’m off work at the moment therefore have the opportunity to spend more time than I would normally but I can imagine it would be really hard to keep up the pace and work full time too.. Thanks also for the lovely words of encouragement about my posts – it’s difficult to know how the content is really received so I appreciate your kind words! Thanks again xx

I am glad you have found it useful and you are very welcome!

I am off to eat doughnuts now – off a plate, mindfully and with relish 😉

Love your blog setup and content. Like you, I sometimes question this blogging thing, am I wasting my time? Then I remember why I’m doing it. It feeds my soul.

Thanks so much I really appreciate that! I realised when writing this how much I’ve learned in just 3 short months – lots more still to learn though.. x

      • May 31, 2016 / 10:55 am

I don’t think we ever stop learning in the blogging world – just like we never stop learning in life – , at least that’s how I feel ! I’ve been blogging for only two months but when I look at some older blogs that I know, I feel like they are constantly learning, just like us ! 🙂

I think you’re right Emma and I think that’s what’s helped me to plod along – a bit like the hare and the tortoise fable… We’ll get there in the end and in the meantime I’m going to enjoy celebrating each small milestone knowing that “The Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” and we can enjoy learning and sharing our experiences along the route! Much appreciated and good luck with your blog which is looking fab by the way!xx
