Poem: It’s Up To Me

Poem: It’s Up To Me

I came across this lovely poem a few days ago and on researching a little more about the poet James T Metcalfe, I realised that we share the same birthday (although many years part) and he also died in the same year as I was born.. Definitely some synchronicity!

James T Metcalfe was a prolific writer of poems which were published in many daily American newspapers in the 1950’s and in this particular poem, how apt these words remain, to many of our lives today.

We may be living through a technological evolution but we still share the same insecurities and emotions as those of our previous generations and as highlighted in this poem, in the end our happiness and success in life comes down to our beliefs about ourselves.

If you aren’t getting the happiness and success  you want in life then you have to look inward and challenge your beliefs about yourself. I love these lines in this poem…

But all the yesterdays in which

I had the chance to grow

I’m trying to maximise my opportunities ‘to grow’ in this period of my life and to challenge my perceptions, learn new lessons and make changes to help me take control of my own destiny, as I highlight in my Poem: Hamsters to Swans… I hope you enjoy this poem by James Metcalfe as it serves to remind that our happiness really is up to us!

Why waste any more time? I’ve finally started to listen to some of the messages that have been banging me over the head for a while, taking some time out to enjoy life and hopefully this will enable me to reveal my true Brilliance Within! Do what you need to do to reveal your inner brilliance to the world too! x

It’s Up To Me

I get discouraged now and then

When there are clouds of gray,

Until I think about the things

That happened yesterday.

I do not meant the day before

Or those of months ago,

But all the yesterdays in which

I had the chance to grow.

I think of opportunities

That I allowed to die,

And those I took advantage of

Before they passed me by.

And I remember that the past

Presented quite a plight,

But somehow I endured it and

The future seemed all right.

And I remind myself that I

Am capable and free,

And my success and happiness

Are really up to me.

Hello, Purely by accident — yes, I know, there is no such thing — I bumped into this poem by James Metcalf and as I am involved in training, I thought I’d check it out on the web.

It is remarkable. Even more remarkable are the dates of birth of both you and James Metcalf. One quick question though, the year, day and time in which these comments were recorded, was that 2017 or 2018/

For if it was in 2017 at the times you mentioned, then this is taking coincidence to a giddy limit. Tell you why, I read the poem for the first time in my life at around… I’d say 20h20. As I write this line now, after having faffed about reading some other things, the time on the clock in front of me reads 21h01.

    It is a brilliant poem.

    Be blessed.
    Namaste!

    Errol.

Hi Errol, Namaste to you too!! It’s a brilliant poem and it was 2017 that I added this to my blog. Yes you’re right – I’m a great believer in synchronicity and I too am a trainer and also a great believer in the Law of Attraction – you may be interested in checking out my series on the Law of Attraction… I’ve had some amazing successes. I notice you’re working on your website and I’ll be sure to check it out if you let me know when it’s ready. Have a brilliant weekend! x

Thanks Jen – I wrote it last year but it somehow feels more applicable for me this year too.. I’ve been in ‘limbo’ for 12 months and am on my way out.. onward and upward! x
